Milan, 08 June 2017: The Philippine Consulate General in Milan hosted a reception today at Palazzo Cusani for the Consular Corps of Milan to commemorate the 119th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence and the 70th Anniversary of Philippine-Italian Diplomatic Relations. Palazzo Cusani is a 17th Century palace which serves as the Italian Army Military Command in Lombardy Region and the representative office of NATO in Milan.

In attendance were the members of the Consular Corps, representatives from the Office of the Prefect of Milan, the Office of the Mayor of Milan, and other important institutions. Dr. Marta Mancini, Chief Officer for International Relations of the Comune di Milano delivered a message highlighting the warm relations that the Philippines and Italy continue to share.

A group of Filipino youth were in excellent form as they performed the Philippine folk dances, tinkling and subli, to the delight of the audience. The Santo Niño Choir serenaded the guests with Ibong Kakanta-kanta, Bakya Mo Neneg, Manang Biday, Paruparong Bukid, and other Filipino folk songs.

A video presentation of the Department of Tourism’s Dive Philippines campaign was also shown to the guests to demonstrate the wonders of more than 7,000 islands of the Philippines.

Consul General Marichu Mauro thanked the government of Italy, the city government of Milan, the Region of Lombardy and the rest of Northern Italy, colleagues in the Consular Corps, private institutions and civil society for their support to the Filipino communities and to the programs of the Philippine government in nation-building.

The Philippine Honorary Consul to Piedmont Region, Maria Grazia Cavallo, also delivered short remarks, praising the contributions of Filipinos to the development of Italy and their important role in the Italian society in general.

Dr. Marta Mancini, Chief Officer for International Relations of the Comune di Milano delivered her message, which emphasized the warm relations that the Philippines and Italy have continued to share throughout the years.

To commemorate the 70 years of Philippines – Italy diplomatic relations, Consul General Mauro invited the Italian officials to join her in the symbolic cutting of the cake.

As a simple token of thanks for their attendance, guests were given Philippine Brand dried mangoes from Profood Cebu.
