In line with its Gender and Development Program of empowering women by raising awareness, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, in collaboration with Associazione Italiana Malati di Cancro, parenti e amici (AiMAC), conducted a seminar on Female Cancer Awareness in Mestre, Italy on 25 September 2016.
Awareness is the key to the prevention and treatment of cancer. Cancer deaths have significant economic costs and impact heavily on the families’ resources. The affected women lose the opportunity to work, preventing other family members to engage in the same, as they have to be taken care of, thus resulting in loss of income and even any savings they may have due to the overwhelming cost of medical treatment.
The resource speaker, Dr. Maria Rosaria Grasso of AiMAC discussed the primary prevention, diagnosis, surgery and treatment of the different types of cancer prevalent among women such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and cancer of the uterus.
The forum concluded with an open forum where attendees had the opportunity to ask Dr. Grasso regarding specific questions and issues on cancer risks and prevention.
